Red Coalition takes more legal action against City of Longueuil and its police force

By CityNews Staff Posted Nov 18, 2022, 1:30PM EST. Last Updated Nov 18, 2022, 1:31PM EST.

The Red Coalition is taking additional legal action against the City of Longueuil and its police force, hiring human rights law firm Grey Casgrain.
The group, which advocates stopping racial profiling, alleges the Longueuil police force has failed to follow court orders from a 2020 racial profiling case against the Longueuil police by Joel DeBellefeuille.
On November 17, 2020, Justice Christian Brunelle of the Human Rights Tribunal ordered the city of Longueuil completed a list of actions, including making racial profiling data public, within 24 months of the judgment.
CityNews reached out to the city of Longueuil for comment and they asked us to contact the Longueuil police force for more information. We asked the police force for a statement and more information – they acknowledged our email and said they would get back to us.
