A video showing Montreal police detaining a man during an investigation into a stolen vehicle Thursday is drawing questions on officer conduct. The video begins with the man and the two officers standing in a parking lot beside the vehicle. The man, who has his hands cuffed behind him, is demanding police explain why he was stopped. Racial profiling: police can’t stop motorists without reason, Quebec Superior Court judge rules

Police can no longer conduct traffic stops on motorists without a reason, according to a Quebec Superior Court decision Tuesday. BACKGROUND: Racial profiling trial into power of Quebec police to make random car stops The decision determined the practice was arbitrary and a “safe conduct for racial profiling against the Black community.” “Racial profiling does exist,” judge Michel Yergeau said. “It is not a laboratory-constructed abstraction. Une famille de LaSalle a décidé de porter plainte à la police pour incident haineux après une engueulade raciste avec un passant. L’altercation verbale, filmée par la mère, circule sur les réseaux sociaux depuis. “Go back to where you came from,” said a man in French, seen on video insulting a family in front of their home in Montreal’s Lasalle on August 11, as he was walking by. “We’ve never experienced anything like this ever in our lives,” said Nadisha Hosein, who was in the car with her eight-year-old daughter when this happened. Couple fears for safety after man hurls racist insults in front of their 8-year-old daughter

Nadisha Hosein was pulling out of her driveway in Montreal's LaSalle borough with her husband, Pramit Patel, and their eight-year-old daughter last Thursday, when a pedestrian came out of nowhere behind her.
