Police Ethics Commission sees over 2,000 racial profiling complaints

In the span of 20 years – it’s more than doubled. In 2021, more than 2,400 complaints were filed. Images from a textbook at Centennial High School in Greenfield Park, Quebec has been called out as racist. Local business owner and civil rights advocate Joel DeBellefeuille was tagged on social media in a photo posted by a longtime friend whose child attends the high school on Montreal’s South Shore. DeBellefeuille shared one photo of a page featuring illustrations of gangsters, at least one of whom is clearly a caricature of a person of colour.  Read More

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE William McMillan who is black went to the RBC Royal Bank at Le Fauboug de L’ile in Pincourt, a town just west of Montreal to help his mother pay some bills through their joint bank account on December 9th, 2021, where he says he experienced unjustified treatment by the branch manager; all of which he states was based on the color of his skin. On December 7th, 2021, William assisted his mother in the sale of her house at a notary where the necessary paperwork was completed properly, including a Power of Attorney and Deed of Sale.  Read More
Man claims he was racially profiled by RBC Royal Bank in Pincourt after trying to pay bills with funds from a joint bank account.

William McMillan who is black went to the RBC Royal Bank at Le Fauboug de L’ile in Pincourt, a town just west of Montreal to help his mother pay some bills through their joint bank account on December 9th, 2021, where he says he experienced unjustified treatment by the branch manager Mila Desrosiers; all of which he states was based on the color of his skin. On December 7th, 2021, William assisted his mother in the sale of her house at a notary where the necessary paperwork was completed properly, including a Power of Attorney and Deed of Sale. The notary sometime during the same day, completed a wire transfer to the joint bank account held by William and his mother at RBC.   Read More
CDN/NDG Coalition launches petition against profiling
on December 8th, 2021
A coalition dedicated to fighting systemic discrimination and racial profiling has launched a federal e-petition challenging Montreal’s largest borough to act quickly. The Red Coalition, founded by NDG resident Joel DeBellefeuille, says CDN-NDG is in breach of the Montreal charter of rights and responsibilities by not having an action plan in place to fight the scourge of racial profiling by law enforcement.  Read More
